Rain and Storms on the Way

March 20 2010

David Ernst Saturday night: increasing clouds...lows in the low 50s...S wind 5-10 mph

Sunday: mostly cloudy, rain likely...highs around 70...S wind 5-15 mph

Sunday night: cloudy, storms continue...lows in the upper 40s...SE wind 10-15 mph

The beautiful weather we saw to start the weekend will sadly not be continuing. A storm system is taking shape in the middle of the country, and it will begin impacting the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry on Sunday. Clouds will increase ahead of the system on Saturday night, and showers should begin to spread in during Sunday morning. By the early afternoon we should see the rain make it into the Savannah metro area. There could be a few thunderstorms, but a better chance of storms will hold off until the evening. The most likely threat from any storms will be damaging winds. While I'm not expecting any widespread severe weather, an isolated severe thunderstorm or two is not out of the question for Sunday night. The rain and storms will be coming to an end on Sunday night. Our skies may even clear up temporarily, but the clouds will fill back in quickly as cold air continues to spread into the upper levels of the atmosphere. We may see an additional sprinkle for Monday, before the system pulls away from the area on Tuesday. Both those days should be somewhat breezy with cooler temps (highs in the low to mid 60s). The sun will return for the middle of the week and temps should begin to warm. By Thursday, highs should be back into the mid 70s with mostly sunny skies.
