Rainy and Cool Weather on the Way

November 21 2009

David Ernst Saturday night: mostly cloudy...lows in the low to mid 50s...NE wind 5 mph

Sunday: cloudy, rain likely...highs around 60...NE wind 5-15 mph

Sunday night: cloudy, rain ending...lows in the low to mid 50s...NE wind 5-10 mph

An area of low pressure will be moving along the northern Gulf coast Saturday night through Sunday. We will also see an area of strengthening low pressure off the Carolina coast over this same time period. This means just about all of us will see some rain on Sunday. As the Gulf low moves across southern Georgia/northern Florida, it will push plenty of low level moisture into the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry. As a result clouds should thicken overnight Saturday, and the widespread rain should begin to move in late Sunday morning. Periods of moderate to heavy rain will be possible on Sunday afternoon, and a few claps of thunder will be possible, especially across southern Georgia. The energy from both of the areas of low pressure mentioned earlier with effectively merge and move north of the area on Monday. They'll leave behind plenty of low level moisture and I'm expecting some dreary weather to begin the work week. We should see cloudy skies and pockets of drizzle or mist will be possible for Monday. Temps will be cool over this time period with highs struggling to reach 60 on Sunday. Southern Georgia should be a little warmer with highs approaching 70 around Brunswick. For Monday, it will again be cool with highs in the lower 60s. The weather starts to clear up for Tuesday and Wednesday with highs warming up over this time period. We should see pleasant weather for Thanksgiving, but another shot of cold air looks to move in by the end of next week.
